Our Featured Cat AARON!
"Aaron is a handsome, very well mannered, quiet & dignified gentleman. To the best of my knowledge, he is free of any bad habits or nuisance behaviours. He is gentle & unassertive with other cats and has the most beautiful grey/blue fur being a Russian Blue. He is wonderfully affectionate & cuddly with one on one attention. Sadly, Aaron was abandoned by his previous owners and he's now looking for a second chance in a new loving home. BELLA needs A LOVING HOME!

Posted September 5th, 2008 - Bella is a beautiful 10 month old Border Collie/Walker Hound Cross, who needs a lot of TLC and would do well with a family who has plenty of time for her and space for her to run. She does very well off leash and loves to run while keeping a watchful eye over her family. Bella tends to be shy around strangers during her walks and requires positive encouragement and guidance; and also with housetraining, but is making wonderful progress in both areas. Spending lots of quality time with Bella is the key, along with consistency from her people. Bella enjoys showing off her skills of 'sit' 'shake paw' 'other paw' and 'lay down'. During feeding, when commanded, Bella will sit and only proceed to eat when commanded to 'go ahead'; Bella is not aggressive with her food. "BUY A BRICK, LEND A PAW" Campaign To Complete the Shelter
|
"BUY A BRICK, LEND A PAW" Campaign is now underway with the goal of raising $400,000 to complete the new shelter building (please see more information and pictures of the shelter under construction below). "Bricks" are being sold at $100 each to help us complete our new shelter building for the rescued, homeless animals in need within the Georgian Triangle. 'Bricks' can be purchased in your name, or as a gift for birthdays, anniversaries, or other special occasions, or in memory of a loved one or pet. Acknowledgement cards will be sent out as requested by donors. A Special Plaque will be installed in the new completed shelter building to honour all who purchased a 'Brick', and helped build a home for animals in need. There are several ways to donate: GBAR Brochure & Donation forms can be picked up at The UPS Store, Collingwood, and at most veterinary offices and pet stores in the Georgian Triangle, and also other stores in the area which display a 'Buy a Brick, Lend a Paw' poster in the window. You can also call Dori at (705) 444-7208 for information on mailing in a donation or doing a credit card donation. You can also buy a 'Brick' using Canadahelps.org website
N.B. In the 'Message/Instructions' section, please type in: 'Buy a Brick, Lend a Paw', and special occasion, person or pet being honoured. The goal is to raise $400,000 to complete the shelter building, hopefully before the end of 2008, to get the wee animals 'home for Christmas'. The quicker the funds can be raised, the faster the homeless animals will have a safe, warm, loving environment, as they await their forever, loving homes. There will be loving cats available for adoption; come with a carrier to take your new family member home! Also: 2009 Pet Calendars for sale; 'Buy a Brick' Christmas gift cards; Christmas Basket raffle with super prizes; Shelter tours; hot drinks and munchies....and much more! All Proceeds for completion of the Shelter building. Let's bring the animals 'home for the holidays'. See you THERE! Entry is by 'Kitty Food Bank' donations of canned cat food and clumping cat litter. Please be generous. The need is great. Your attendance at this event would lift the spirits of the many homeless animals needing a home and of the hardworking volunteers who never give up on these little ones. WHO WE ARE..

Georgian Bay Animal Rescue (GBAR) is a registered charity run solely by unpaid volunteers, who have been dedicated to helping animals in need, since 1999. GBAR is a "No Kill' animal rescue, serving Georgian Triangle, dedicated to helping lost, injured, abandoned, neglected animals; providing compassionate care, spay/neuter, adoption, 'second chances' at life." GEOGRAPHIC COVERAGE GBAR has no formal boundaries; it serves the area commonly known as the ‘Georgian Triangle’, which includes the communities of Wasaga Beach, Stayner, Creemore, Collingwood, Town of Blue Mountains, Thornbury, Clarksburg, Meaford, and the surrounding areas. At times, we have provided assistance to animals beyond this region. OUR VISION ‘No more homeless animals’ We dream and work towards a world in which there are no stray, unwanted, abandoned, neglected or abused companion animals, by building awareness of animal welfare rights, and promoting responsible pet ownership. OUR MISSION We are dedicated to helping injured, abandoned, neglected, abused, homeless and unwanted animals: 1. To care for these animals by providing safe, healthy, warm and loving environments. 2. To strive to place these animals in loving forever homes as quickly as possible by a well-documented adoption process. 3. To promote responsible pet ownership, including spaying and neutering, to help alleviate pet overpopulation. 4. To provide an educational aspect to our work through volunteer opportunities in our three temporary cat facilities, and by school visits to teach young people about the care and humane treatment of all sentient creatures. The overall goal of GBAR is to build and operate a modern ‘No Kill’ shelter facility where animals will receive compassionate care and medical treatment, including vaccination and spay/neuter, as needed, prior to adoption. HOW WE OPERATE We will operate a central shelter facility housing as many animals as possible, awaiting adoption. At present, we operate three temporary cat facilities, which we hope to eliminate once our central location is constructed. All of our animals receive a health check and vaccinations. Any dogs and cats over 6 months of age are also spayed or neutered. We actively promote the adoption of these animals to good forever homes on our website and in local newspaper ads, bi-annual Newsletters, and all GBAR fundraising events. Donations can be made for our day-to-day operation costs through the Canda Helps.org Website. In the funds designation section, be sure to click on "Operational Funds".
Given our ‘No Kill’ policy, animals may be temporarily placed in caring foster homes until they are adopted. We also provide support in the rescue of injured wildlife by assisting in their transport to rehabilitation centres. The work of GBAR is managed by a 7 member volunteer Board of Directors consisting of: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Fundraising Chair, Cat Adoption Coordinator and Dog Adoption Coordinator. OPERATING STATISTICS Number of dogs taken into care 2007: 38; all adopted by April, 2008. In May, 2008: 7 dogs in care, 6 in foster homes, 1 in vet boarding due to lack of foster home availability. Number of cats taken into care 2007: Approx. 240; 168 adopted. In May, 2008, over 300 cats in care, 150 are in foster homes, over 150 in three temporary cat facilities. Number of animals spayed or neutered in 2007: 273. Operating Expenses 2007: $237,977.00 Veterinary Care: $177,653.00; Pet Supplies/Care: $13,857.00; 3 Cat Facilities: $7,482.00; Fundraising Costs: $30,702.00; Office Supplies, Telephone, Bank/Visa Charges, Misc.: $5,158.00; Insurance: $3,125.00. Shelter Building Fund: Raised for construction of permanent shelter: Phase I - $547,000 in cash and pledges. ‘Buy a Brick, Lend a Paw’ Campaign to complete Phases 2 and 3: started April, 2008 - $300,000 to be raised. WHY YOU SHOULD HELP Caring for society’s homeless, needy animals is a community responsibility. Your contribution to building a permanent animal shelter in the Georgian Triangle helps to build civic pride in all aspects of community life, and makes our towns, villages and neighbourhoods better places to live, work and play. Teaching members of our society, particularly its youth, about animal welfare and human rights and the importance of understanding and respecting others, promotes the establishment of strong values throughout the community. Caring for our animals in a humane way makes us all feel proud of where we live. Research has shown that communities that care for others---human and animal—have lower rates of petty crime, juvenile delinquency and physical and mental abuse occurrences. HOW YOU CAN HELP Volunteers are needed to fulfil a variety of roles, including animal care, fundraising activities, adoption promotion, and provision of foster homes for animals awaiting adoption. Call (705) 445-5204 and leave a message, if you can assist. Financial support is always urgently needed to provide for the needs of rescued, injured and sick animals brought into care daily. Donations of any amount are gratefully accepted; tax receipts are provided for donations over $20.00. Donations-in-kind are always welcomed, particularly of items such as: canned cat food; scoopable cat litter; orphan kitten formula (KMR); towels, blankets and sheets; cat toys; pet hair brushes; pet dishes; pet carriers; flea treatment for cats and dogs (Advantage, Revolution). Actively support our fundraising activities through your participation and/or donation of items for our silent auctions, and our summer store, “Bizarre Bazaar”. Adopt or foster one or more of our loving animals into your home. Please visit our website at www.cdhs.petfinder.com, for a full list of animals available for adoption or fostering. We also always need ‘emergency’ (short notice) dog and cat foster homes. Please place yourself on the list of available homes. OUR NEW PERMANENT SHELTER & ‘Buy a Brick, Lend a Paw’ Campaign On January 8th, 2008, construction began on our new shelter building on Tenth Line, off Mountain Road, Collingwood. Phase 1 (exterior walls, roof, interior rough-ins) was completed in May, 2008. Fundraising for Phases 2 and 3 (‘Buy a Brick, Lend a Paw’ Campaign) is currently in progress, with the goal of raising $300,000. Check our website for updates and photos of the shelter as it is constructed. You can also drive by for a look-see! ‘Bricks’ can be purchased for $100 each, in your name, or as a gift for birthdays, anniversaries or other special occasions, or in memory of a loved one or pet. A Special Plaque will be installed in the completed shelter to honour all who bought a ‘Brick’ and helped build a home for animals in need. To purchase a ‘Brick’ or more, fill out the attached Donation Form, and mail it in with your information and donation amount. Our challenge is far from over. It is clear that we have much to do to modify attitudes and improve understanding of animal welfare and treatment. In spite of our efforts at education and awareness building, the number of animals needing our care continues to grow, resulting in corresponding increases in our operating costs and volunteer requirements. Being a ‘No Kill’ organization puts additional stress and pressure on available resources, although it is the right approach to animal care. YOUR ongoing support remains a necessity so that all creatures living among us are provided with care, comfort, nourishment, relief from pain and, most importantly, a loving forever home.
